Treguier - even more beautiful than we remembered.

It didn’t disappoint! Treguier is just as lovely as it ever was and still the home of amazing sailors. We were dwarfed by this huge trimaran and more than a little humbled at what it has achieved in the hands of sailing gods. Notably sailing non stop around the world the wrong way, against prevailing winds and currents SINGLE HANDED.. Our 63’ mast was like a toothpick against this giant and I can scarcely imagine what a Southern Ocean sail change is like on your own, cold wet and with a sail the size of a football pitch flogging in the wind- respect for the men and women who do this but not for me folks.

The town of Treguier is the essence of a Breton seafaring town and the 6 mile trip up a river bound by gorgeous houses and cottages is everything we remembered from our regular jaunts here more than 15 years ago.

And did I mention the church? It has a granite steeple the like of which I’ve never seen with ornate openings to allow the wind through and the sound of the bells out. Slightly out of tune in a minor key and with no trace of tuneful campanology, just as French bells should be.

But time to move on, the Chanel du four and Raz de Seine are calling so next stop Roscoff.
